Communication Gap

Anyone who has experienced e-mail sender's remorse ("Oh, no!") knows the peril of depersonalized, disembodied instant communication: responding quickly and automatically, we can be easily misunderstood -- or, perhaps worse, too well understood. Angie Brown, Crystal Morey, Jake Gabel, Nancy Bach, Patrick Renner, and Amanda Jayne Kennedy explore modern interpersonal (and impersonal) relations at the Compound Gallery. Kennedy and Renner adopt the Surrealist game of blind artistic collaboration for an "exquisite corpse" sculpture that marries a ball of socks in its Gothic cage with an octopus tentacle. Brown draws dramatic, angular portraits that infuse comic-book style with angst. Gabel depicts mysterious juxtapositions of tigers, playing cards and rosettes. Bach constructs a multimedia cityscape with cassette tapes rolling on their capstans like pulleys or assembly lines. Morey builds doll-like, vexed female nudes that are classically posed on their florid wall brackets.Communication Gap runs through September 8 at the Compound Gallery (6604 San Pablo Ave.,Oakland). i didn't draw the duck head... that was kier's addition.

its not done yet, but i feel like i should post about what ive been working on. right now it already looks different than it did in this photo, but my camera broke so... your just gonna have to wait a bit.

i get real excited about art in common places like bathrooms in coffee shops, or many other places that are not coming to mind right now. It's all about enriching or rather creating an experience that we are not expecting.

i took a picture of this picture of a picture of a light bulb on a red wall... but i didn't take the first picture of the light bulb. that one was already there. i couldn't read the original artist's name, it was only a signature. nice job.

My first curatorial experience was so awesome!! It was so much fun to have an idea, and get some folks excited about it and watch how everything came together.
Cyclecide came and helped us celebrate at the opening, as well as the scraper bike kids from west Oakland!! Those kids are off the hook!! We sold a few things, and there was an amazing turn out. Check the Velocipede blogg for photos of the event.

I'm also excited about the scavenger hunt that is coming up on March 22nd!! clues and collecting stuff rules!!

I've been adding custom decals to found ceramic cups. The decals are fired on and turn brown once fired. This photo was taken before the cups were fired.

Currently cups and plates are sold for $20.00 each. Every cup is a little bit different.

I made this piece while i was at watershed, with the special watershed clay.The trunk is in several sections and each branch is also separate. The base on which the tree rests is made of maple wood, and the house on top is pine.

This piece was shown in the On One Condition, show in 2007, and now is a part of the Forder collection

my first trip to NY, and i fell in love with that place as well!!

the stairwell window of the loft i stayed at in Brooklyn.

The subway system in NY was impressive, 2 dollars gets you all the way from upper Manhattan to Conney Island, or Queens! Pay by ride not distance traveled. I wish that BART would adopt this system.
